The main deity is Lord Veeraraghava Perumal, depicted in a reclining posture on Adisesha, symbolizing protection. He is also known as "Vaidhya Veeraraghavan" for his healing abilities. His consort, Goddess Lakshmi, is worshipped as Kanakavalli Thayar, representing wealth. 

Legend

Legend states that the sage Salihothra established the temple after Lord Vishnu appeared to him, promising to reside in Thiruvallur to bless devotees. Another legend says Lord Shiva was cured of Brahmahatti Dosha after worshipping here. 

Significance

This temple is a major pilgrimage site known for its healing rituals. Devotees perform special prayers and poojas to seek relief from various ailments. The sacred tank, Hrutatapanasini, is believed to have curative properties and purify devotees of sins. 

Remedies

Curing ailments: Prayers and rituals like Abishekam with sandalwood oil and offering salt and pepper are performed. Some offer replicas of affected body parts.

Marriage finalization: Prayers are offered for successful marriages.

Blessings for progeny: Many pray for children, sometimes tying wooden cradles outside the shrine of Venugopalar.

Relief from hardships: The temple offers solace and is believed to help alleviate difficulties.
