The Varasiddhi Vinayagar Temple, located near the beach in the vibrant Besant Nagar neighborhood of Chennai, is a significant Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, also known as Vinayaka. The temple is a well-known landmark, easily accessible near the Besant Nagar Bus Terminus.

Deities

The primary deity enshrined in the temple is Varasiddhi Vinayagar, according to cosmoview.in. The main sanctum features the idol of Valampuri Varasiddhi Vinayakar (Ganesha with his trunk turned to the right) with his consort Siddhi seated on his left. A smaller, original Ganesha idol, initially worshipped at a site across from the current location, is installed above the main deity. The temple also houses sub-shrines dedicated to other deities like Krishna, Dakshinamoorthy, Murugan, and Durga.

Legend and significance

The temple's origins trace back to the 1970s, when a small idol was worshipped in a thatched shed nearby. Local residents formed a Satsangam (association) and facilitated the construction and expansion of the current temple, with the first Kumbabhishekam (consecration ceremony) held in April 1979. The presiding deity, Varasiddhi Vinayagar, is revered as the remover of obstacles and bestower of wishes, attracting devotees seeking his blessings.
