The Varadaraja Perumal temple in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu was constructed 650 years ago by the Kings of Vijaya Nagar. The temple tank of this temple has a mandap (small rest house) within it inside which is the idol of Sri Varadaraja Perumal. The deity is taken out only once in 40 years. Fishes and other small aquatic animals thrive in this pond. The temple is a very famous Vaishnavaite shrine in Kanchipuram.
