Kashi Tulsi Manas Temple

The temple is located in the Durgakund area of Varanasi, close to the famous Durga Kund Temple. Built in 1964 by the Birla family, it is constructed entirely out of exquisite white marble. The temple's unique architectural highlight is its walls, which are meticulously engraved with the entire text, verses, and scenes from the epic Ramcharitmanas.

The central sanctum houses beautifully adorned idols of Lord Rama, Devi Sita, and Lakshmana, alongside Lord Hanuman. On the upper floor, there are automated, moving electrical dolls and tableaux depicting key scenes from the Ramayana, which attract large crowds.

The temple stands on the exact historical site where the great saint-poet Goswami Tulsidas sat and composed the Ramcharitmanas in the 16th century. Tulsidas broke tradition by translating the epic from sacred Sanskrit into Awadhi (a dialect of Hindi), making the divine story of Rama accessible to the common person for the first time.
