Shri Moreshwar
Moregaon

Presiding Deity:
Mayureshwar

Maharashtra is home to eight temples dedicated to Ganesha, each related to specific episodes from the puranas or other legends. The eight deities are collectively named Ashta Vinayak.

Moregaon Mayureshwar is considered to be one of the Ashta Vinayak shrines of Maharashtra, located at a distance of about 50 km from Pune. The region abounded in peacocks and hence the name Moresh or Moregaon. The name Mayureshwar is also attributed to the legend that Lord Ganesh rode a peacock mount in a battle against the demon Sindhu.
An east facing image of Ganesh flanked by brass images of his consorts Siddhi and Riddhi is enshrined in this temple. Ganesha is depicted armed with a spear(Vel), with a cobra mounted on his head in this temple, which is a well visited one, fortified with lofty walls.
