The Pon Vazhividum Vinayagar Temple is situated in the village of Thondi, along the east coast road of Tamil Nadu, between Vedaranyam and Uppur. The name of the temple translates to "Golden Vinayagar who shows the way". The main deity is Lord Ganesha, enshrined in a simple sanctum without a vimanam (the typical tower over the shrine). Adi Shankara's Ganesha Pancharatha Stothram is believed to be dedicated to this form of Vinayagar. 

Legend

Legend has it that Adi Shankara, a great philosopher and theologian, stayed in Thondi on his way to Rameswaram. He is said to have composed the Ganesha Pancharatha Stothram here, a powerful hymn dedicated to Lord Ganesha, which is why the temple holds a special place in devotees' hearts. The deity is known for guiding devotees and helping them clear their paths to success and spiritual advancement. The temple's modest structure highlights the belief that divine presence can be felt anywhere, without needing a grand temple complex.
