Bhairava Moorthi Temple
Tiruchengode

Presiding Deity:
Bhairava

The Bhairava Moorthi Temple is a sacred site in Morepalayam, dedicated to Bhairava, a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva. Located in the Tiruchengodu Taluk of the Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu, the temple is a local center for spiritual worship and seeking divine remedies.

Legend and significance

Bhairava's legend originates from a dispute between the gods Brahma and Vishnu. When Brahma boasted of his own supremacy and slighted Shiva, an enraged Shiva created Bhairava, who proceeded to sever one of Brahma's five heads. For this act, Bhairava was forced to roam the earth as a mendicant, carrying Brahma's skull, until he was absolved of the sin of Brahmahatya in the sacred city of Varanasi.

This temple honors Bhairava as a formidable deity who destroys ego and protects devotees from negative influences. He is also considered the guardian of travelers, particularly those traveling at night. As a Grama Devata (village deity), Bhairava protects the village and its residents from danger.

Remedies and worship
