The Chintamani Vinayak temple is located in the vicinity of Pune at Thevoor (or Theur). According to a legend,Kapila Muni, a sage,possessed a gem called Chintaamani capable of granting desires. When a young prince named Guna visited him, he invoked the powers of the gem and created a sumptuous meal. The prince stole the gem, enamored by its power. A distraught Kapila Muni prayed to Vinayaka for help. Vinayaka restored the gem from the prince, however the sage refused to accept it, and began to rever Vinayaka as Chintaamani Vinayaka. The temple closely associated with Maratha ruler Madhavrao Peshwa,enshrines an east facing image of Ganesha which has interesting features such as gold inlays.
