Nathan Koil, also known as “Nandipura Vinnagaram”, is situated at about 7 kms from Kumbakonam, to the South near Korukkai. One of the 108 abodes of Lord Vishnu (Divyadesam) Nathan Koil is under the control of Nanguneri Sri Vanamamalai Mutt.

Goddess Mahalakshmi desired to be with Lord Vishnu always and did penance, praying to Lord Vishnu facing east in “Shenbagaranyam” – forest filled with the scented “Shenbaga” flowers,where Nathan Koil is situated. Lord Vishnu, accepting the prayers of Goddess Mahalakshmi, appeared to Her on a Friday in the growing phase of the moon (Sukhlapaksham) in the Tamil month of “Iyppasi” (Oct-Nov).
“Navasukravara archana”, that is archana on 9 Fridays, is being performed to Shenbagavalli Thayar to beget all wealth and the desires in life. Pujas and Offerings prepared using green grams for 9 nine Fridays is believed to beget all wishes and desires in one’s life. Special pujas to beget wealth, education, employment and marriage are offered to the Goddess here.
Ashtami, the eighth day after new moon or full moon is auspicious for the Goddess here and special pujas are conducted for Shenbagavalli Thayar on all Ashtami days. Pujas are offered for 8 Ashtami days to beget wealth and happiness. “Neidheepam” is offered to the Goddess on Ashtami days.
The Lord here, known as Jagannathan or Bhoga Srinivasan is in sitting posture, along with consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. Nathan Koil is considered a “pariharasthalam” for Moon, one of the navagrahas, and hence pujas to appease Moon and for “Chandradosham” are performed to the Lord here on Mondays.
Lord has appeared here for Nandi and King Sibi. The Lord here has appeared to the prayers of Nandi to get rid of his sins and disease, which were inflicted by the “saapam” of the dwarapalakas of Lord Vishnu.
Sri Sooktha Homam performed on 8 Sukhlapaksha Ashtami Days are believed to beget wealth, prosperity, happiness and all desires & wishes in life. Sri Sooktha Homam is performed with lotus flowers and honey.
