Aadi Perukku
Venue :  Chennai
Date    :  August 03, 2026

Aadi Perukku is one of the most cherished festivals celebrated in Tamil Nadu, observed on the 18th day of the Tamil month of Aadi. The word "Perukku" means increase, abundance, or overflowing prosperity, symbolizing the blessings of nature, fertile lands, and life-giving rivers.

This sacred festival is primarily dedicated to expressing gratitude to water, one of nature's greatest gifts. Devotees offer prayers to rivers, especially the River Cauvery, acknowledging its role in nourishing the land and sustaining life. Families gather on riverbanks to offer flowers, fruits, turmeric, rice, and lamps while praying for prosperity, harmony, and a bountiful year ahead.

Beyond honouring nature, Aadi Perukku is also regarded as an auspicious occasion to seek the blessings of Goddess Mahalakshmi, the Divine Mother of wealth, abundance, and auspiciousness. It is believed that prayers and sacred rituals performed on this day invite prosperity, happiness, and well-being into one's home.
