This temple is one among the well known Murugan temples. Sri Dandayuthpani, Malaikkolundu amman, Malaikkolundu Sivan, Sri Natarajar and Sri Kulandhai Velayudha swami are installed in this temple which was built by the Chera kings in the 13th century. The Rajagopuram (temple tower) is magnificent. The deity circumambulates the temple everyday in His Golden chariot. It is believed that if devotees circumambulate the hill temple (giri valam) they will be healed from any kind of suffering. Archana and Abhishekam are the types of pujas performed here. The Brahmotsavam is celebrated in March - April every year. The other festivals are Karthigai, Kandha sashty, Thirukkarthigai, Panguni uthiram and Thaipoosam.
