Siddhi Vinayak
Mumbai

Presiding Deity:
Siddhi Vinayak

The Siddhi Vinayak temple at Prabhadevi in Mumbai is very popular, attracting thousands of devotees throughout the year.

The temple dates back to the early nineteenth century and was renovated in the late 1900s to accomodate the needs of the surging crowds of devotees. The sanctum houses a small mandapam enshrining Siddhi Vinayak. The wooden doors to the sanctum are carved with images of the Ashtavinayak (the eight manifestations of Lord Ganesh in Maharashtra). The inner roof of the sanctum is plated with gold.

In most places Lord Ganapati is depicted with his trunk curled towards his left. At Siddhi Vinayak in Mumbai, Siddhi Vinayak at Siddhatek as well as at Karpaka Vinayakar at Pillayarpatti in Tamilnadu the Lord is depicted with a trunk pointing to the right (Valampuri). He is depicted with four arms bearing a lotus, an axe, modakas and a garland of beads, flanked by his consorts Siddhi and Riddhi.

The Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Mandir was consecrated on Thursday, 19th November 1801.It evolved from a small place of worship to the Grand Temple that stands today in the later half of the twentieth century.Siddhivinayak is well known as “Navasacha Ganapati” or “Navasala Pavanara Ganapati” in Marathi among devotees.
