Sashti
Sashti is another day of importance to Lord Skanda. It usually falls a few days after New moon of the month. Devotees undertake fasting and prayers on the occurrence of this day every month for a period usually a year or three years.

Muruga had come here with Devas to annihilate Surapadman, the Asura, who had encamped in the mid-ocean fortress of Veeramahendrapuram near Tiruchendur.
     
Amavasya
This marks the new moon day. The moon, which is one of the Navagrahas denoted as CHANDRAN, is considered as a deity who showers blessings of prosperity and good health. This occurs once every month, usually a fortnight after Pournami.

Arunachaleshwarar Temple
The temple of Lord Annamalai and Goddess Unnamalai in Tiruvannamalai (in Tiruvannamalai Sambuvarayar district) enshrines Lord Siva in His Form of fire, one of the five elements.
Chandhi Homam
The purpose of the Chandi Homam is to remove any obstacles or blocks in growth.By performing the Chandi homa, the sufferings that are caused by hostile elements, are eradicated. The sufferings resulting from poison, sorcery, thieves etc. are removed by performing this homa – both internally and externally – for a person or a group of people.
     
Ekadesi
Ekadasi is a Sanskrit word, which means 'the eleventh'. It refers to the eleventh day of a fortnight belonging to a lunar month. There are two fortnights in a lunar month—the bright and the dark. So, Ekadasi occurs twice in a month, in the bright fortnight and the dark fortnight. The special feature of Ekadasi, as most people know it, is a fast, abstinence from diet.
 
Renganathar Temple, Srirangam
This is the foremost of the 108 shrines glorified by the Alwars; all of the Alwars with the exception of Madhurakavi Alwar have sung of its glory. It is the one of the greatest centers of the Sri Vaishnava religion and among the most visited pilgrimage centers in India.
Parthasarathy Temple, Triplicane
It is believed that Venkateswara of Tirupati manifested himself as Parthasarathy here, and hence the name Venkatakrishnan. This shrine is considered equivalent to Tirupati, and Saturdays in the month of Purattasi are considered sacred here.

Santana Gopala Homam or Purusha Shuktha Homam
Dedicated to Lord Mahavishnu.The Purusha sukta homa is said to be equal to the Putra kameshti yagna narrated in the Ramayana in providing healthy progeny to the performer. Those who wish progeny, success in endeavors, worldly enjoyment and the final emancipation shall attain it by performing this.
     
Pradosam
Pradosha pooja is one of the most sacred and important among the poojas performed by Shivites to the Graceful Lord Shiva. In Shukla Paksha (15 moon days from new moon to full moon) and Krishna Paksha (15 moon days from full moon to new moon) the evening of the Trayodasi (thirteenth moon day) between 4.30 pm to 6.00 p.m. is called Pradosham. It comes once in fifteen moon days. Pradosha time is to pray Lord Shiva and invoke His Blessings. Praying in this time will free us from sins and gives Moksha (hence the name Pradosha).
 
Rameshwaram Temple
This Shivastalam is considered to be one of the holiest  shrines in India. It represents the southernmost of the 12 Jyotirlingams of India and has been a time honored pilgirmage center held on par with Benaras.

Parvati (Karpakambal) in the form of a peacock, Mayil is said to have worshipped Shiva (in a legend similar to that at Mayiladuturai).The Teppam or float festival in the large temple tank, and the biweekly Pradosham festival also draw huge crowds here.

Varanasi - Benares - Kaasi is considered to be the holiest of all pilgrimage sites in India. It is considered home to Shiva - Visweswara.  Benares is also known as Kaasi because it is beleived that Supreme brilliance shines there, and lights the way to salvation (Kas - to shine).

To avoid danger in life. The Sri Rudram chant is an ancient Vedic hymn, and is the oldest example of a listing of various names of Lord Siva. Through the chanting of Sri Rudram, Lord Siva's various attributes and aspects are invoked and worshipped.
     
Sivarathri
This falls on the 13th (or 14th) day of the dark half of Phalgun (February-March). The name means “the night of Shiva”. The ceremonies take place chiefly at night. This is a festival observed in honour of Lord Shiva. Shiva was married to Parvati on this day. The Lord Shiva is pleased with austerities, so no sweets are prepared. Instead, people are expected to fast the whole day, and worship Lord Shiva throughout the night. Fruits are permissible for those who cannot follow the intense devotion expected.

Sankatahara Chaturthi
The Sankatahara Chaturthi Viratha occurs during the fourth day of the They Pirai or Krishna Paksha, every month. Every year, we have the Maha Sankatahara Chathurthi.The viratha starts before sun-rise and lasts until moon-rise just before mid-night. This is observed in order to overcome difficulties and problems. People suffering from the bad effects of Moon or Mars can perform this viratha.
